At times, I made formal arrangements like "The Wheel" and put them through a series of light manipulations. Someone once asked me why I don't just arrange the material on the floor and photograph it. The answer: photographs don't produce 3-dimensional, floating in space effects that scanning does. And, my light effects could never be achieved with camera lighting. There's magic in my methods, I think.
