There's very little trash surrounding major museums in Manhattan because they have cleaners picking up everything several times a day...except for the magnificent Metropolitan Museum which, because of the massive stairs and fountains, affords welcoming places for hordes of people (many tourists) to sit, eat, drink and litter.
